Ablação ocular no camarão Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae): efeitos sobre a reprodução, pigmentação epidérmica e atividade alimentar Zoologia
Santos,Marcel José Martins dos; Pinheiro,Marcelo Antônio Amaro.
This study analyze the consequences of unilateral and bilateral ablation based on ovigerous percentage, consecutive spawns, and secondary effects of the surgical process in the females of Macrobrachium rosenbergii (De Man, 1879). Two experiments were carried out with four and seven months old females in intermolt stage. Each experiment was comprised of control, unilateral and bilateral ablation. Eyestalk ablation was done with a bistoury with a topic hot cauterization followed by application of antibiotic pomades. The animals were maintained at constant temperature (28 ± 1,05ºC) and photoperiod of 12L: 12D within fibercement boxes with sandy bottom and biological filter. Females were observed once a day during fourteen weeks, registering gonadal condition,...

Crustaces profonds captures aux casiers aux Antilles françaises - 1996 ArchiMer
Paulmier, Gerard.
For several years the fishermen of the West Indies have directed their activities towards new fishing grounds, notably the bathyales zones adjacent to island plateaux up to approximately 1000 metres in depth. Explorations carried out since 1989 have shown that diverse crustacean populations could be exploited. However, populations and exploitable stocks are not well known. The use of crustaceans traps as a fishing technique permits the capture of shellfish, shrimps and prawns of which at least six species could have commercial interest. The main objective of this work is do draw up an inventory of the principal commercial species as well as the accompanying species belonging to the subordres Decapoda macrura, anomura, brachyura and to the orders Isopoda...

In vivo and in vitro protein digestibility of formulated feeds for Artemesia longinaris (Crustacea, Penaeidae) BABT
Fernández Gimenez,Analía Verónica; Díaz,Ana Cristina; Velurtas,Susana María; Fenucci,Jorge Lino.
This study was undertaken to determine the in vivo crude protein apparent digestibility in the prawn Artemesia longinaris, using feeds with 0.25% of chromic oxide and animal (fish meal, meat and bone meal and squid protein concentrate) and plant (soybean meal) ingredients. Three replicate groups of prawn were fed and the feces were collected. The rate of protein hydrolysis was measured in vitro using midgut gland enzyme extract from the prawns fed the respective feeds and was compared with those found with enzyme extract of wild prawn. The in vivo apparent digestibility coefficients showed significant differences among the feeds (P<0.05). Fish meal feed presented the highest digestibility (92%); intermediate digestibility (83%) was found for meat and...

Les pêcheries mixtes de langoustine et merlu du Golfe de Gascogne, modélisation bio-économique et simulation des procédures de gestion ArchiMer
Charuau, Anatole.
Fishing crayfish on the gulf's mudflats is a traditional business practised by 450 boats of 12 to 18 metres in length and employs 2,500 sailors. In the north of the gulf, this activity is exclusive, in the south, immature hake are also caught, because the crayfish areas coincide, in part, with the nurseries of the northern stock of this species. Management of these fisheries, called mixed, of crayfish and hake is one of the greatest problems of the Gulf of Gascony. All assessments tend to show the responsibility of the crayfish boats in the future of the hake stock. The solution is likely to pass through a generalised increase of the 80 mm meshing that would lead, eventually, the hake stock yield to its maximum, but would eliminate a great many trades...

Maturation and growth curves of Macrobrachium Carcinus (Linnaeus) (Crustacea, Decapoda, Palaemonidae) from Ribeira de Iguape River, southern Brazil Zoologia
Valenti,Wagner C; Mello,Jeanette de T.C. de; Lobão,Vera L.
In this paper, female Macrobrachium carcinus (Linnaeus, 1758) maturation curve, weight/length relationship, length and weight growth curves were studied. Prawns were captured, by traps, in Ribeira de Iguape river (24ºS and 47ºW), southern Brazil. There were used 207 females. It was observed that M. carcinus presents several spawnings during its life cycle and reproductive period goes on, at least till six years old. Weight/length relationship can be represented for the equation W = 8.73 E-3 L3.28. Expressions obtained for length and weight growth curves are Lt = 21 .0 (1-e-0493t) and Wt= 190 (1-e-0493t)3.28. respectively. A symptotic maximum length and asymptotic maximum weight are nearly attained at six and eight years old, respectively.

This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of M. oleifera extracts against fungi isolated from farmed prawns and test the toxicity of the extracts on larvae of Macrobrachium amazonicum. The ethanol extracts of pods, seeds, leaves, stems and flowers and chloroform extract of flowers of M. oleifera were tested against 14 strains of Candida spp. and 10 strains of Hortaea werneckii isolated from farming water and the digestive tract of M. amazonicum. Antifungal activity was determined by microdilution, based on the M27-A3 and M38-A2 CLSI documents. Toxicity was evaluated by exposing larvae of M. amazonicum at concentrations between 10-1000mg mL-1, counting dead larvae (CL50) after 24 hours. The best results were verified with the chloroform extract...

Pêcheries bigoudenes. Bilan des connaissances Activités de pêche, Ressources, Gestion ArchiMer
Biseau, Alain; Maguer, Cedric; Sanz Aparicio, Céline.
Located at the far south-west of Brittany, the pays bigouden is the first of the French maritime regions in terms of landed value and the second one in weights. The bigouden fishing practices are characterised by a large diversity of target species and métiers. Studying the fishing practises leads to a description of the various métiers and fishing strategies together with their trends over the last ten years. Identification of métiers is based on multifactors analysis. Using a classification method based on thresholds of species landings then allows a more objective analysis and leads to a more quantitative characterisation of the trawl métiers, which represent more than 80% of the total fishing activity of this region. Two métiers are based on Nephrops...

Peches experimentales des crustaces profonds dans les eaux de la martinique ( pandalidae, nephropidae ). Prospections, rendements et biologie des especes. ArchiMer
Paulmier, Gerard; Gervain, Paul.
The principal objective of the work carried out in the deep waters adjoining the island shelf around Martinique between July 1991 and april 1992 was to establish an initial inventory of potentially exploitable deep benthic resources. The cylindrical lobster pot used during fishing experiments allowed the catch of a varied carcinological marine organisms of which six species at least have economic interest : 5 species of shrimp all belonging to the sub-order of Caridea of the Pandalidae family : Plesionika edwardsi, P. (macropoda) polyacanthomerus, P.laevis, Heterocarpus ensifer and H.laevigatus, and one species of prawn of the Nephropidae family : Eunephrops cadenasi. The yields, compared to those of commercial fishermen, were medium or good for Plesionika...

Prospection et peche de la crevette profonde Pandalus borealis au large des cotes de Terre-Neuve et de Nouvelle-Ecosse. ArchiMer
Fontaine, Bernard; L'Herrou, Roger; Decamps, Philippe; Paturel, Bernard.
To assess the potential fishery for Pandalus borealis, the R/V `CRYOS' made cruises, in 1970 off SW Newfoundland and in 1971 off Nova Scotia. The trenches where Pandalus is found and the 3 types of trawl (large mouth, balloon and flat) are described. Details of size of catches and of individuals, and also of fish species caught are given. Prawn stocks in these grounds seem to match those of grounds already being exploited. Significant fish catches may also be expected (e.g. skate, herring and cod). Canadian type trawlers of ~ 65 ft would be suitable to exploit this fishery.
